Evolution Architects was formed in 2010 by architect Raewyn Hayhoe. The practice has grown into a small, but highly effective team of professionals, including graduate architects and architectural technicians. Remaining small has developed a culture of agility, with personalised service and a hands-on approach to every project. Established as leaders in the field of sustainable architecture, their design of Shepstone & Wylie’s Office building, 24 Richefond Circle, became the first building in KZN and the second building in South Africa to be awarded a four-star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa. This naturally evolved into specialising in green building, exploring the fertile ground between cutting- edge innovation and future sustainability. The practice takes a conscious approach to energy and ecological conservation in the design of every built environment.

This innovative field offers our clients green designs and technology that minimises the negative impact of buildings on people and the environment, while maximising efficiency and moderation in materials and energy.
With vast experience in retail, commercial, industrial, education, health, gated estates and residential, our practice is prepared for any project. All details of projects are managed in-house, including design, detailing and documentation, project management and the role as principal agent.
The Team
Raewyn Hayhoe is the principal professional architect of Evolution Architects. She graduated from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (formerly University of Natal) in 1994. After gaining work experience with established architectural practices in KZN, she began her first role of principal architect in partnership at Archi Angels Architects from 2004. Six successful years later, in 2010, Evolution Architects was the natural progression and development for the practice.
Lauren Joubert is an associate architect of Evolution Architects who graduated from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal with a masters in architecture in 2012. She is a perfectionist who clearly understands the role of an architect. She has fresh ideas and enthusiasm about design. Her dedication and loyalty to her profession has proven her vital role at Evolution Architects.
William Whitehouse is a well experienced Senior Architectural Technologist and is qualified as a professional senior architectural technologist who graduated with a B.Tech degree from the Durban University of Technology. William is a highly meticulous, dedicated and efficient member of our team.
